Afood outlet in the form of a small cart - operating at the Kibulawela junction - has become very popular, with a clientele ranging from ministers, to actors, to large numbers of ordinary folk.
W.D. Gunarathna, the owner of the mobile outlet is a father of two who commenced his business 15 years ago, preparing and selling items like chick peas and vadai.
Today his business has expanded and while his wife prepares the food, he has hired a boy to assist him. The menu now includes a variety of other short eats as well.
"We are open for business from around 8.00 a.m. as some of our customers arrive early. We must be ready to serve them" he said
The food prepared at his home is brought to the outlet in a 3-wheeler.
Business has been profitable and Gunarathna has now bought a piece of land and plans to expand his business.
"We work almost everyday", said Gunarathna. "Business is brisk on Poya days as most other outlets are closed, but when it rains however, there is a drop in business," he said.
